Turning The Heel
Well, how is everyone making out with their sock? If all has gone well your heel flap should look like this. Pretty easy right? Just repeating 2 rows back and forth. (No knitting in the round for this part.)
Row 1 slip the first st purlwise and purl to the end of the row.
Row 2 *slip one st, knit 1 st * repeat to end of the row.
This will give you a nice reinforced heel flap and by slipping the first st on each row it gives you a nice edge st to make picking up your sts easier.
Now for the fun part...turning the heel! It is a series of short rows. Just follow the pattern. Knit the number of stitches and turn your work mid row. Don't worry about the stitches left unknit. As you work through each row, you will be knitting one more stitch across until you reach the final row where you will knit all of the stitches. Your heel should look like this. Yahoo, give yourself a pat on the back. You have turned your fist heel. Good job!!
