Almost There...

Only 192 sts left that need the lace border knit onto them. Now that I have counted, almost 200 sts doesn't seem that close to being finished...

Making Progress

The Color Affection shawl continues to grow. After some debate over what I should use for the third colour in this shawl, I decided to go with the navy.

There is just something about garter stitch that I find to be relaxing and I don't mind at all that the rows are getting longer and longer. I can't wait to finish a few more rows to really see how I like all the colours together, but so far I am liking it!

Super Simple Flower Slippers

I needed to take a break from the lace knitting so I got a start on some new slippers for the winter.

I rewrote a slipper pattern that used chunky yarn into a pattern for worsted weight yarn. I am going to add these slippers into my Learn To Knit classes this fall. They are an easy, quick knit that will let new Knitters practice casting on, garter stitch, increasing, decreasing and sewing up their knitting - twice ;)

This pair was knit with Bernat Mosaic. I love the colours this yarn comes in so I didn't bother to make both slippers match. I like the mismatched look and then added a knitted flower for fun.

Beach Knitting

I spent a little bit of time knitting at the beach tonight.

It was warm, sunny and quiet and just the spot I was looking for. Knitting a simple garter st slipper to the sound of the water; it doesn't get any more relaxing.

Shawl Progress

Being up at the cottage for the weekend was wonderful! The weather was great; just perfect for walks (with your knitting) and finding a shady spot to sit and knit outside.

Lots of progress was made on the new shawl. Only had to pull out a few rows once and that was when I decided to change the colour I was using. I switched from black to purple and it looks so much better!

Today I am working on the white lace shawl to try to finish the edging by tonight. Happy Knitting!

Happy Weekend!

It is the start of the long weekend here and what better thing to do than start a new shawl for my weekend project!

Enjoy your weekend!

Knitting Buttons

Last night was the Knitting Goddeses Guild meeting. The Goddesses are such a great group of Knitters; it is always a fun night when we get together!

Since September we have been working on a sampler pillow cover where each month we learn/review a different technique. Last month we talked about how to make different button holes for the flap on the top of the pillow so it only seemed natural for this month's topic to be knitting the buttons.

We practiced two different ways. One was supper simple and made a cute little button. Here is how we did it.
Cast on 15 sts
Cast off 15 sts
Leave a long tail and cut the yarn
Weave in your cast on tail
Thread a darning needle onto the cast off tail
Starting at the end without a yarn tail, roll it up into a ball
Using the darning needle pull the yarn tail back and forth through the button a few times until secure. Leave a tail to use for attaching to your project.

If you want a bigger button you can knit a row or two before casting off. You could also cast on more or less sts.

For the other button we used a button kit. But even using a dk weight yarn the knitting was too thick for the back piece of the button to snap into the front piece. So we just wove our tail all the way around the edge of the button cover and pulled it like a drawstring to pull the button cover tight around button form. You don't need a kit to do this. Any button you want to cover would work fine. Just knit the button cover larger than your button with smaller needles at a tighter gauge so what you are covering doesn't show through.

Mystery Box

Since Mother's Day is this weekend, I decided to treat myself to some new yarn. (Maybe I should have waited until Sunday to open it but I couldn't!)

This is from Has anyone else ordered their Mystery Box? This is the first time I have and I am impressed!

2 balls of Cascade Kaleidoscope It an acrylic nylon blend, not sure what I will use this for. Maybe kids hat and mitts??

2 skeins of Bijou Spun (teal) This is 75% Yak Down and 25% Bamboo, it is so soft. This will be a small shawl, pattern yet to be decided.

4 balls of cotton (pink) This will be a summer tank that I am thinking of casting on tonight.

And of course the beautiful needles from Lantern Moon.

It is going to be hard not to order the next Mystery Box!

More Birthday Goodies!

Is there really a better gift for a Knitter than Malabrigo sock yarn and a beautiful shawl pin? I think not!

Now to decide on a pattern. Shall I search through Ravelry or design my own...

Birthday Books

What a fun weekend it has been so far! I had a great birthday yesterday and the fun is continuing today.

I have learned my lesson about asking for yarn for my birthday. Everyone looks at me like I am crazy and replies "NO, you have too much already!"

So, I decided to change tactics. I asked for books.

It Is Going To Be A Good Day

The first thing I saw this morning as I was coming down the stairs was my knitting sitting on the table. I immediately thought three things.

1. Boy, I really like that pattern
2. It doesn't look like the cat slept on it
3. The cat didn't chew the wooden needles

It is looking like it is going to be a good day :)
